The spring pea (Lathyrus vernus) is an attractive, perennial plant. As its name suggests, the spring pea is one of the first plants to bloom in spring. Its vibrant blue, violet, pink, or occasionally bicoloured flowers bring colour and life to the garden at a time when most other plants have yet to awaken. The blossoms of the spring pea attract bees and other pollinators. Lathyrus vernus is a hardy and low-maintenance plant. Once established, it thrives with minimal effort. It is excellent as an understorey plant in open woodlands or beneath taller shrubs and trees, where it can brighten shaded areas with its colourful display.
