The Virginia obedient plant is a perennial for the garden or planter. It originates from North America, where it commonly grows along riverbanks or in moist meadows. It requires a sunny to semi-shaded location. The name 'obedient plant' points to a unique feature: each individual flower has a sort of joint on the stem. This allows the flower to be positioned individually. The individual flowers are arranged in a spike. Due to this effect, individual flowers can sometimes appear out of line, disrupting the order a bit. The reason for this characteristic is not yet fully understood. As with all members of the Lamiaceae family, the pink flowers of the obedient plant are an excellent food source, particularly for butterflies and bumblebees. A beautiful, lush, and easy-to-care-for perennial that enhances the autumn garden with its blooms.
